A téma rövid leírása, a kidolgozandó feladat részletezése:
A hegesztett szerkezetek gyártásának legköltségesebb eleme a hegesztés.
A kutatás hegesztett szerkezetek tervezésével kapcsolatos releváns, a gyakorlatban hasznosuló kérdésekre keresi a választ.
    • Szakirodalmi összefoglaló a hegesztett acélszerkezetek teherbírását leginkább befolyásoló tényezők feltárására. A gyakorlatban leginkább elterjedt védőgázas fogyóelektródás ívhegesztés mellett más hegesztési eljárásokkal (Laser, hibrid) készült eredmények felkutatása.
    • A szakirodalomban fellelhető kísérleti programok tapasztalatai alapján kísérleti program megtervezése az eltérő hőbeviteli módok hatásának vizsgálatára. A kísérlet során mérni szükséges a hegesztési hőbevitelt, a keletkező deformációkat és sajátfeszültségeket, valamint a szerkezeti elem teherbírását is.
    • A kísérleti program kiértékelése alapján meghatározni azokat a paraméterek és paramétertartományokat amelyeken kísérleti eredmények kibővíthetőek virtuális kísérleti programmal.
    • A vírtuális kísérleti programhoz olyan numerikus környezet kidolgozása/adaptálása mely hatékonyan le tudja írni a keletkező termomechanikus és metallurgiai folyamatokat.
    • A kapott eredmények alapján egyszerűsített modellek és méretezési eljárások kidolgozása, és implementálsa szabványos környezetbe.

The most expensive component in the fabrication process of welded structures is welding. The high costs besides the filler material cost are the machine time and/or the skilled worker. Despite the high costs of the welding process, Hungarian and international design practices do not exploit the economic potential of optimizing the production of welded joints. The current design standards do not consider the effects of different welding processes on structural behavior. They do not examine the specifics of heat input, welding sequence and intermittent welding, so engineers do not have too many design parameters but choose the root size of welds to make production economical.
The present research topic investigates the effects of welding parameters on structural behavior, which is essential for safe and economical manufacturing. The heat source is a parameter of welding. Its magnitude is generally proportional to the welded joint's load-bearing capacity, but at the same time, increases the manufacturing stresses and strains of the structure. The latter parameters unfavorably affect the stability behavior, so choosing the correct heat input will increase load-bearing capacity. The intermittent welding process can reduce the heat source and the welding time; however, its effect on the structure (deformations and stress distributions) requires more detailed investigations, especially in the case of compressed and bent structural elements.
When reinforcing a structure, often necessary to create the welding on a structure under significant mechanical loading. Besides the mechanical stresses, the thermal effect is also significant, so the structure's load-bearing capacity during welding can be less than before welding. However, deformations and stress may change due to second-order effects, which is essential for determining the accurate load-bearing capacity.
The research focuses on relevant and practical questions of welded structural design. The research program has two major parts: (i) an experimental program to investigate the above-described effects, and (ii) an advanced numerical model to describe the phenomena and perform parametric studies. The production of the experimental specimens and the execution of the experimental program can be realized in cooperation by the Department of Structural Engineering and the Hungarian representative of Cloos Inc.
Steps and tasks of the research can be summarized as follows:
    • Literature overview on structural behavior of welded structural elements. The review should focus on the factors most influencing the load-bearing capacity of welded steel structural members. Besides the most commonly used (MIG/MAG) welding process, other welding methods (Laser, hybrid) should also be investigated.
    • Based on the literature review, design an experimental program to investigate the effect of different welding processes and heat input. During the experiments, the heat input of the welding, the residual deformations and stress, and the load-bearing capacity of the structural elements should be measured.
    • Based on the evaluation of the experimental program, determine the relevant parameters and parameter ranges, and extend the experimental results with a virtual experimental program.
    • Develop or adopt a numerical environment for the virtual experimental program that effectively describes the resulting thermomechanical and metallurgical processes.
    • Based on the obtained results, develop and implement simplified models and methods for the design process, and implement the results in a relevant standard.
